Teen crashes Tesla into Jericho home, deeming it unsafe

A 17-year-old girl driving a 2025 Tesla crashed into a residence in Jericho, Long Island, on Sunday evening, leaving the home structurally unsafe. Two occupants inside were uninjured, while the driver suffered minor injuries but refused medical attention. Authorities have displaced the residents temporarily pending repairs.

The incident occurred around 9:40 p.m. on Sunday when the 17-year-old, whose identity was not released, was driving westbound on Orange Drive in Jericho. At the T-shaped intersection with Onondaga Place, the Tesla left the roadway and struck the side of a home, according to Nassau County police.

The driver sustained a minor injury in the crash but declined medical treatment. Inside the residence at the time were two people, who escaped without injury. Video from the scene showed firefighters clearing trees and shrubs the vehicle had plowed through and extracting the Tesla from its impact point next to a brick chimney, where a large hole was visible in the home's side.

An inspector from the Town of Oyster Bay Building Department assessed the damage and declared the structure "structurally unsafe." Town spokeswoman Marta Kane stated the damage was "both structural and electrical," leading authorities to ask the residents to relocate temporarily "until necessary repairs can be made." She added that the town is awaiting a further evaluation from a structural engineer or architect hired by the homeowners and will "expedite any permits needed to get them back into the home."

No further details on the cause of the crash were provided in reports from police or town officials.
