A Memphis woman has been charged with first-degree murder after police say she shot and killed a man she found hiding under her daughter's bed. Kendra Scott, 36, is accused of killing 20-year-old Rodderius Morton early Wednesday at a home on Travis Road.
Police responded to the residence around 1:45 a.m. and found Morton in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the back of his head. Scott told officers at the scene that she "saw a dude under my kids' bed, and I did what I had to do."
A neighbor reported hearing banging and later saw Scott standing outside with a gun, saying "I shot him, I shot him." A girl at the home told investigators that Morton had been invited inside around 1 a.m. and hid when Scott arrived home about 30 minutes later.
The girl said Scott had previously warned her that if she saw a boy in the house she would "put a hole in his a—." Scott is being held without bond at the Shelby County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
