Tesla Model Y tops Dutch car market in first half

The Tesla Model Y led all vehicles in the Netherlands for the first half of 2026, narrowly beating the Toyota Aygo X by three registrations. New passenger vehicle sales rose 13.4 percent in June to 39,015 units.

Dutch industry groups BOVAG and RAI Vereniging reported the June total, which marked the second straight month of growth after a slow start to the year. Year-to-date registrations reached 174,789, down 4.2 percent from the same period in 2025.

Hybrids captured 53.9 percent of the market through June with 94,258 units, while fully electric vehicles accounted for 36.5 percent on 63,776 registrations. Electric cars made up more than 44 percent of June sales.

Kia led brands with 16,605 registrations, followed by Toyota and Volkswagen. The Model Y recorded 4,317 units in the first half, placing it comfortably ahead of other electric models including the Kia EV3 and Škoda Elroq.
