Tesla sneaks new Full Self-Driving version into holiday update

Tesla has begun rolling out its Holiday Update software version 2025.44.25.5, which includes a surprise new Full Self-Driving version for Hardware 4 owners. The update, starting with Early Access Program members on December 13, 2025, refines FSD v14.2.1.25 to address minor issues in the previous release. It bundles festive features alongside navigation and safety enhancements.

Tesla initiated a controlled rollout of software version 2025.44.25.5 on Friday night, December 13, 2025, targeting Hardware 4 owners first. This Holiday Update incorporates Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14.2.1.25, which first appeared for Early Access Program members. The new FSD version represents a slight refinement over v14.2.1, which had been available for a couple of weeks and drew criticism for minor regressions in speed limit recognition, speed profile adjustments, and parking performance.

Owners have welcomed the update, as noted in a TESLARATI tweet: "Tesla v2025.44.25.5 Holiday update incoming. Also Full Self-Driving v14.2.1.25!!!" The company maintained a slow deployment pace for Hardware 3 and older vehicles over the prior two weeks, seemingly holding back the full release until Hardware 4 compatibility was ready.

The Holiday Update adds numerous features, including Grok with Navigation Commands (Beta), allowing the AI to add and edit destinations; Tesla Photobooth for cabin camera photos; Dog Mode Live Activity on iOS for pet monitoring via snapshots; and an updated Dashcam Viewer with metrics like steering wheel angle and speed. Festive elements feature Santa Mode with new graphics, trees, and a lock chime, plus a Light Show Update adding Jingle Rush. Navigation sees improvements such as Automatic HOV Lanes Routing, Supercharger Site Maps at 18 pilot locations, and easier layout setup.

Other additions include Phone Left Behind alerts, Save Charge Limit by Location, SpaceX Docking Simulator game, Car Wash Mode redesign, and Hebrew language support. Undocumented items encompass Charging Passport and USB drive storage details for Dashcam. Tesla describes FSD as still impressive overall, with refinements expected to resolve specific performance hiccups.

Following yesterday's v14.2.2 release, Tesla deployed Full Self-Driving (Supervised) v14.2.2.1 on December 24, 2025, with tweaks for rain and parking performance. The update coincides with FSD activation for Cybertrucks in South Korea and sparks comparisons to rivals like Waymo.
