A 35-year-old Fort Worth man has been charged with capital murder after police say he beat his 9-year-old daughter to death in February.
Marquise Anderson was arrested on Tuesday and charged with capital murder of a person under 10 years old. He remains in custody at the Tarrant County Jail without bond.
Fort Worth police responded to Anderson's home at 3:15 a.m. on Feb. 8 after receiving a call. Joanna Shoulder was found on the floor with extensive bruises and later died at a hospital from blunt force injuries.
An autopsy showed multiple bruises on her back, thighs and lower extremities along with bleeding under the scalp and around the spinal canal. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide on June 16.
Police said Anderson admitted to spanking the girl and then beating her with a belt that had a metal buckle after she smirked at him. He provided varying accounts of how she sustained head injuries.
