Thunderstorms expected over Metro Manila and parts of Luzon

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration issued a thunderstorm advisory on Sunday morning for moderate to heavy rains, lightning and strong winds in Metro Manila and several Luzon areas within the next two hours.

The advisory, released at 7:10 a.m., listed areas including Marikina, Navotas, Malabon, Valenzuela, Caloocan, Subic, Castillejos, Olongapo, San Narciso, San Felipe, San Marcelino and Bagac as likely to experience the conditions. Quezon City, Cabangan, San Antonio and Morong were already seeing the weather, which could continue for two hours.

PAGASA weather specialist Aldczar Aurelio noted at 5 a.m. that the southwest monsoon, or habagat, would bring cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms to the Ilocos Region, Bataan and Zambales. The rest of Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao were forecast to have fair weather with possible localized thunderstorms.

The bureau urged the public to take precautionary measures against flash floods and landslides. It also said cloud clusters outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility were being monitored for possible development into a low-pressure area.
