Troops from Operation Hadin Kai have detained a suspected Islamic State West Africa Province operative accused of plotting attacks on two military sites in Borno State.
The suspect, identified as Muhammad Shuaibu, was taken into custody by soldiers from the 212 Battalion at the Forward Operating Base Chabbol. The arrest occurred during a routine patrol roughly 500 metres from the base's anti-vehicle ditch.
Military sources stated that human intelligence had indicated an imminent assault on the 199 Special Forces Battalion, known as Mosquito Camp, and the Chabbol base. Shuaibu reportedly told interrogators that the attackers planned to proceed with the operation despite his detention.
The suspect has been transferred to the 7 Military Intelligence Brigade for further inquiries. The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by Operation Hadin Kai to disrupt insurgent networks in the North-East.
