Wavves and Say Anything have joined forces on a new collaborative album titled Cherry Soda, scheduled for release on September 18 via I Surrender.
The 10-track record was produced by Aaron Rubin and features songs co-written entirely by Wavves frontman Nathan Williams and Say Anything's Max Bemis. The project blends their styles of coastal pop-punk.
Williams said he drew inspiration from Bemis' catalog. "I wanted to see what an early 2000s Wavves emo record would sound like," he stated. "That was the idea: to make a mall emo record."
Bemis described the creative process as mutually influential. "We kind of wrote to each other's situations," he said. "He became more emo and I became more Wavves-y."
The lead single "Deathx1k" includes a stop-motion video directed by Jelly Eyes that features claymation versions of Williams, Bemis and other characters.
