The PSDB attributes strong responsibility to the PT for the expansion of organized crime in Brazil in recent years. The PSDB has issued sharp criticisms against the PT, stating that the party bears strong responsibility for the escalation of organized crime in the country. In a statement to Folha de S.Paulo's Painel column, federal deputy Aécio Neves (PSDB-MG), who will assume the party's presidency at the end of November 2025, said: "The PT acts as if it has nothing to do with the escalation of organized crime, as if the party had not led Brazil for 17 of the last 23 years".
According to data from the Instituto Teotônio Vilela (ITV), a research body linked to the PSDB, one of the main issues is the low budgetary execution in security areas. For the National Penitentiary Fund (Funpen), allocated to states for building and expanding penal facilities, execution was only 36.2% in nearly three years, totaling R$ 565 million out of R$ 1.6 billion budgeted.
The National Public Security Fund (FNSP), which finances re-equipment, training, and qualification of civil and military police, as well as intelligence and investigation systems, achieved 63% execution of the budget, or R$ 4.6 billion out of R$ 7.3 billion.
In response, the Ministry of Justice stated in a note that resources are made available proportionally to the states and that execution is handled by local entities. The PSDB's statement comes amid debates on public security, referencing topics like the Public Security PEC and Operation Contenção in Rio de Janeiro, highlighting violence and the fight against drug trafficking.
