About 90 per cent of homeowners at the fire-damaged Wang Fuk Court in Hong Kong have signed letters accepting the government's buy-back offer as of July 16.
The Deputy Financial Secretary’s Office reported that 1,786 owners had submitted acceptance letters, with 769 already signing sale and purchase agreements. This covers 90.1 per cent of flats in Blocks A to G and 89.1 per cent in Wang Chi House.
A November 26 fire killed 168 people and displaced about 5,000 residents in Blocks A to G. The government announced the HK$6.8 billion buy-back plan in February and later extended it to Wang Chi House for an additional HK$1 billion.
The deadline for acceptance is August 31, with priority flat selection offered to early participants. Some residents have expressed concerns about rushed decisions, while officials note that help is available to retrieve belongings from damaged homes.
