The Consumer Police closed an aesthetic clinic in São João de Meriti on Tuesday, the 28th, following reports of aftereffects in more than 20 patients. The owner, Ana Paula Mariano, is a fugitive and is under investigation for using prohibited substances.
The Decon operation took place on Tuesday afternoon, the 28th, and led to the arrest of another person responsible for the establishment. Patients reported injuries after gluteal harmonization procedures, possibly involving polymethylmethacrylate, or PMMA.
The clinic had already been shut down on June 18 due to expired medications. At that time, an employee named Alessandra Oliveira de Jesus was arrested for criminal organization and crimes against consumer relations, but the site reopened later.
The Carlos Éboli Institute of Criminalistics will carry out an expert analysis of the seized material to support the 14 ongoing police inquiries against the establishment.
