An Amazon delivery driver in Washington state has been charged in federal court with shooting a USPS letter carrier in the face during a confrontation in an apartment mailroom last October.
Blake Kuhlman, 27, allegedly smirked at the postal worker before drawing a .22 Magnum revolver and firing during a scuffle at the West Mall Place Apartments in Everett. The carrier lost an eye in the incident and later told investigators that Kuhlman stood over him staring after the shooting.
The case was originally handled locally before being dismissed and refiled in U.S. District Court for the Western District of Washington last week. Kuhlman faces charges of attempted murder of a federal employee, assault of a federal employee, and using a firearm during a crime of violence.
Kuhlman remained at the scene and was arrested by Everett police. Officers recovered the revolver along with body armor, a 9 mm Glock, and a knife. He told investigators he acted in self-defense after the carrier pushed him first.
Kuhlman is scheduled to appear in court for a preliminary examination on July 21.
