The Beach Boys have pulled nearly 30 summer concert dates so that frontman Mike Love can recharge after a string of health-related issues.
The group announced the decision on Mike Love’s official Instagram page. The statement noted that the band has enjoyed celebrating the 60th anniversary of Pet Sounds this year and plans to resume touring in September.
Love, 85, is the last remaining classic-era member still performing with the group following Bruce Johnston’s retirement earlier this year. The tour had included shows across North America and Europe, with some dates already canceled due to Love’s unspecified illness.
The band is scheduled to return on Sept. 24 at the Big E Arena in Springfield, Massachusetts. Several canceled dates are being rescheduled, though Al Jardine and the Pet Sounds Band have taken over the Oregon State Fair slot on Aug. 29.
Jardine, the only other living original member, has been touring separately with his own group this year.
