Boca Juniors beat River Plate 1-0 at Estadio Monumental in matchday 15 of the Torneo Apertura, with a penalty goal by Leandro Paredes. The match, refereed by Darío Herrera, ended in controversy over a penalty claimed by River at the death. Eduardo Coudet lost his unbeaten run as River coach.
Boca Juniors defeated River Plate 1-0 in the Superclásico at Estadio Monumental for matchday 15 of the Torneo Apertura. Leandro Paredes scored from the penalty spot in the 50th minute of the first half, awarded by referee Darío Herrera after a VAR review of a handball by Lautaro Rivero.
The match was physical with few clear chances. Sebastián Driussi was injured and substituted by Maxi Salas at the 16th minute of the first half for River, while Paredes was replaced in the 26th minute of the second half due to discomfort, with Ander Herrera coming on. There were clashes, including between Paredes and Marcos Acuña.
At the death, in the 48th minute of the second half, River players claimed a penalty for a push by Lautaro Blanco on Lucas Martínez Quarta, but the referee did not award it. Eduardo Coudet, in his press conference, said: “It was a typical Superclásico: contested, neither team showed their game... The match got complicated for us with Seba (Driussi)'s exit”. Boca coach Claudio Úbeda stated: “We could have sealed the match earlier”.
Boca players celebrated on the pitch with the chant “Un minuto de silencio” and in the locker room with cumbia, led by Miguel Merentiel.
