Brewers sign outfielder Akil Baddoo to one-year deal

The Milwaukee Brewers signed outfielder Akil Baddoo to a one-year contract on Thursday. Infielder/outfielder Greg Jones also joined the organization on a Minor League deal with an invitation to big league camp. Baddoo brings experience from five seasons with the Detroit Tigers.

The Milwaukee Brewers bolstered their outfield depth by signing 27-year-old Akil Baddoo to a one-year deal. Originally drafted by the Minnesota Twins in 2016, Baddoo was selected by the Detroit Tigers in the Rule 5 Draft in 2020. He has appeared in parts of five Major League seasons with Detroit, compiling a .224/.305/.369 slash line, 28 home runs, and 104 RBIs since his debut in 2021.

In the 2024 season, Baddoo played just seven games at the big league level with the Tigers. However, he had a strong performance at Triple-A Toledo, slashing .281/.385/.483 with 15 home runs and 25 stolen bases over 103 games. Entering 2026, he has one Minor League option remaining. After the 2024 season, the Tigers designated Baddoo for assignment but he re-signed with them on a Minor League deal.

This signing comes as the Brewers field interest in their controllable outfielders. Former first-round pick Garrett Mitchell, a five-tool center fielder, has faced multiple major shoulder injuries and missed most of 2025 but expects to be healthy for Spring Training. Switch-hitting center fielder Blake Perkins, a former Gold Glove Award finalist, and versatile Isaac Collins, who finished fourth in NL Rookie of the Year voting, are also potential trade candidates. All three players have multiple options and at least three years of contractual control, giving Milwaukee flexibility without urgency to deal.
