California father sentenced to 25 years to life for killing infant daughter

A 36-year-old California man received a sentence of 25 years to life in prison for the murder of his 8-month-old daughter. The sentencing follows a jury conviction earlier this year.

Jesse Manuel Figueroa struck his daughter Raina so forcefully that it caused her brain to dislodge and created a bruise matching the shape of an adult hand on her cheek. Prosecutors said the blow led to fatal brain hemorrhaging from blunt force trauma. Figueroa brought the unconscious infant to a Mountain View fire station on July 4, 2020, claiming she had fallen unconscious mysteriously during a family outing. She died days later in the hospital.
