Charlie Woods lost his chance to advance in the U.S. Junior Amateur after a camera shutter disrupted his swing during a playoff at Saucon Valley Country Club.
The 17-year-old son of Tiger Woods had posted rounds of 76 and 70 to reach a 14-man playoff for two match-play spots. The group played the par-5 first hole on the Grace Course in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
Woods reached the fairway off the tee but left his second shot short of the green. As he prepared his third shot from deep rough, a camera noise occurred at the top of his backswing, causing an abbreviated swing and leaving the ball short again.
He turned and said, “Really, dude?” before making bogey and missing the cut. Eli Wessel of Indianapolis and Hudson Kutchma of Westfield, Indiana, took the two advancing spots.
Woods is set to join the Florida State University golf team in next year’s recruiting class.
