Chennai police have arrested four men in connection with the abduction of a 57-year-old businessman who was threatened for a ₹50 lakh ransom.
The victim, Kamalesh Abraham, was abducted on Wednesday morning while walking near the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu grounds at Nehru Park. Three masked men forced him into a car, assaulted him and demanded the ransom before releasing him after taking his mobile phone and a five-sovereign gold chain.
Police formed a special team after Abraham lodged a complaint with the Kilpauk police station. The suspects later contacted him to collect the money near a tea stall on Broadway, where officers arrested them in a trap.
The arrested men have been identified as Jai Saravanan, 20, Jayakumar, 33, Ramkumar, 23, and Ponnivalavan, 25. Police recovered the gold chain and seized the rented car along with three knives. The suspects were produced before a magistrate and remanded to judicial custody.
