The Fiscalía and PDI told the Senate there is no evidence of organ trafficking in the entry of Haitian minors during 2025, though investigations into possible human trafficking crimes continue.
In a June 17, 2026, session of the Senate Public Security Committee, prosecutor Eugenio Campos stated there is no evidence of organ trafficking. “There is none of them,” Campos said, noting he personally checked the matter.
PDI deputy director Ricardo Gatica explained that most minors entered complying with temporary residence permit requirements for family reunification issued by the National Migration Service. The Comptroller detected at least 200 minors arrived without adequate supervision.
Migration Director Frank Sauerbaum noted the government withdrew the consul in Haiti in October 2025 due to corruption complaints over visas. More than 10,000 reunification requests remain suspended.
The Chamber of Deputies unanimously approved an investigative commission to clarify authorities’ actions since 2023.
