The forum, organized by the Socialist International and others, follows a 2025 summit in Santiago. It addresses challenges like wars in Iran, Gaza, and Ukraine, and the rise of right-wing governments.
The Global Progressive Mobilisation (GPM) will open with a plenary named “Salvador Allende” at Barcelona's Fira Gran Vía convention center. Organized by the Socialist International, Progressive Alliance, and Party of European Socialists, it will gather presidents such as Spain's Pedro Sánchez, Brazil's Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Colombia's Gustavo Petro, South Africa's Cyril Ramaphosa, and Mexico's Claudia Sheinbaum. Gabriel Boric will attend at least the parallel “In Defense of Democracy” summit.
Isabel Allende, honorary president of the Socialist International, will be the main speaker in the “Preserving Memory to Defend Democracy” session on Friday, alongside foundation representatives. On Saturday, she joins “Promoting Democracy, Defeating the Far Right” with European socialists like Slovenia's Tanja Fajon and Belgium's Paul Magnette.
Other Chileans include Senator Paulina Vodanovic, who stated: “I am going to the Global Progressive Mobilisation in Barcelona because democracy faces real threats and risks today, and we need an international force to defend it. Chile has a voice and commitment in that task.” Camila Vallejo will speak on “Digital Democracy and Artificial Intelligence,” while Giorgio Jackson, Heraldo Muñoz, and others will attend.
The forum arises amid global instability, emphasizing how progressivism should reposition against conservative forces, per the invitation.
