A cliff collapse occurred Wednesday evening near Miramar Beach in Biarritz, burying two divers. Rescuers recovered a woman’s body and continue searching for the second person.
The landslide of about 2000 m² occurred around 8:20 p.m. at the foot of the lighthouse. Three local divers were present at the time of the collapse.
A female body was recovered in the evening. The third diver, physically unharmed but in shock, received assistance from rescuers. Searches were still actively underway at 10 p.m.
Firefighters, sea rescuers, police and a gendarmerie helicopter were deployed. The area was closed to access until further notice. Serge Blanco, mayor of Biarritz, went to the scene.
