Colombia’s presidential runoff took place on Sunday, June 21, 2026, with 41,421,973 eligible voters. Polls opened at 8:00 a.m. under normal conditions in most capital cities.
National registrar Hernán Penagos highlighted coordination among state entities and the deployment of nearly 400,000 security personnel. More than 16,000 observers, including delegations from the OEA and the European Union, monitored the process.
President Gustavo Petro, while voting in Bogotá, said “the decision is made by the judges after evaluating the complaints during the count. I will obey the judges”. Candidate Iván Cepeda stated that the Pacto Histórico deployed observers to verify the preliminary count and final tally.
Bogotá mayor Carlos Fernando Galán called for respect of results and defense of institutions. According to the Asociación Colombiana de Ciudades Capitales, only Mitú reported electricity issues.
Voters may request a half-day paid leave until July 21, 2026, by presenting their voting certificate under Law 403 of 1997.
