Rättvik church was hit by a copper theft Tuesday night. The stolen goods were later recovered but were destroyed and could not be reused. Police urge property owners to stay vigilant.
The thieves started removing a large window flashing from the church but left it behind. Instead they took copper downpipes from the chapel and copper from the surrounding wall. Property manager Sanni Ollas said the thieves must have been scared off and fled the scene. The stolen goods were found near Siljan by a church visitor. Police warn that copper thefts are often organized and can hit multiple properties in quick succession. The church in Rättvik has suffered similar thefts before.
