Deezer has introduced a free tool that identifies AI-generated music across playlists on 20 streaming platforms. The detector works in 27 languages and claims over 99 per cent accuracy by spotting specific artifacts left by AI software. It supports services including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube Music and SoundCloud.
The launch follows Deezer's ongoing efforts to increase transparency around synthetic music. CEO Alexis Lanternier said the company has been tagging AI-generated tracks for the past year and a half. He noted that no other firm has matched this approach, prompting Deezer to open the tool to all users regardless of their chosen platform.
Data from the service shows that 43 per cent of users arriving from rival platforms already have AI tracks in their playlists. Lanternier added that 80 per cent of users want such tracks clearly labelled.
Last month Deezer reported that 44 per cent of daily uploads to its platform, or roughly 75,000 tracks, are now AI-generated. The new detector is available immediately at no cost.
