DepEd expects 26 to 28 million students for SY 2026-2027

The Department of Education projects total enrollment of 26 to 28 million learners when classes open on June 8 for School Year 2026-2027.

DepEd Assistant Secretary Jocelyn Andaya said early enrollment, which began in January, remains ongoing. She noted that some students are still registering or have yet to enroll.

The three-term school calendar will start this year, with private schools given flexibility in implementation. School days will stay at 202. Andaya said orientations will explain the change to students and parents as part of broader reforms.

The department estimates more than one million teaching and non-teaching staff. It places the classroom backlog at 136,000, with the Department of Public Works and Highways expected to deliver at least 9,000 new rooms this year. New textbooks are being procured for a 1:1 learner ratio and are due in July, while supplementary materials are already in use.
