SEP advances end of classes due to heat wave and 2026 World Cup

The Secretariat of Public Education modified the school calendar to end classes on June 5. The decision responds to high temperatures and the organization of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Public Education Secretary Mario Delgado announced that classes for the 2025-2026 cycle will end on Friday, June 5, following a unanimous agreement by the National Council of Educational Authorities.

Teachers' administrative duties will conclude on June 12. Educators will return on August 10 for a week of Technical Council meetings, followed by two weeks of learning reinforcement from August 17 to 28.

The new 2026-2027 school cycle will officially begin on Monday, August 31. Students will enjoy 86 days of vacation.

Delgado explained that the advance responds to the forecast of heat waves in June and July, as well as the 2026 World Cup, whose opening match will be held on June 11 at Estadio Banorte in Mexico City.
