British tennis player Emma Raducanu has withdrawn from the Nottingham Open and Eastbourne Open to focus on training with coach Andrew Richardson ahead of Wimbledon. The move comes after she reached the final at the HSBC Championships last week.
Raducanu reunited with Richardson in May after parting ways with him in September 2021. Under his guidance she captured the 2021 US Open title. Former British No. 1 John Lloyd called the earlier split the most illogical thing he had seen for years.
The 23-year-old reached the Queen’s Club final last week but lost to Donna Vekic. She holds an 11-10 record this season and sits at world No. 32. Raducanu believes extra practice time will prove more valuable than match play before the Grand Slam.
She had been scheduled to compete in Nottingham and Eastbourne, which begins on June 22. Instead she will prepare with Richardson for Wimbledon, where her best result remains a fourth-round appearance in 2024.
