A standing committee of Ethiopia's House of Peoples' Representatives held a public hearing on a draft tax administration amendment designed to modernize procedures and promote fairness.
The hearing took place in Addis Ababa on June 3, 2018, in the Ethiopian calendar, under the Standing Committee on Plan, Budget and Finance Affairs.
State Minister of Finance Fekadu Horeta told participants that the draft would align tax procedures with Ethiopia's rapid economic growth and strengthen revenue collection through greater accountability.
Senior Legal Advisor Wasihun Abate of the Ministry of Finance noted that fixing the statute of limitations at 10 years would ease pressure on taxpayers.
Committee Chairperson Dessalegn Wedaje said the changes would enable revenue collection to match economic output while updating tax administration.
