The Federal First Instance Court has granted the Federal Police seven more days to investigate a suspect accused of running a large counterfeit tissue operation involving the Viva brand.
The Federal First Instance Court, Arada Division First Crime Remand Bench, granted the extension on June 11, 2026. Suspect Seyid Mohammednur appeared after an earlier seven-day period that began on June 3. Police stated they need time to collect more evidence and locate other individuals involved.
The case concerns unauthorized use of the Viva Tissue trademark registered to Pure Wood Pulp and Paper Packaging PLC under certificate LTM/3249/2017. Authorities said the suspect has copied the packaging and distributed substandard products since 2024 in Addis Ababa and regional states.
Police recorded statements from four people and await results from several agencies. The court rejected a request for 14 days and set the next hearing for June 18, 2026.
