Marlins right-hander Eury Pérez retired all 21 batters he faced over seven innings Sunday afternoon in a 9-8 victory against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park.
Pérez struck out eight and allowed no hard contact that posed a threat during his 92-pitch outing. It marked his third start since returning from the injured list.
Manager Clayton McCullough removed Pérez after seven innings with Lake Bachar entering in the eighth. Bachar immediately walked the first batter and surrendered a single, ending the perfect game and no-hitter bid. The Athletics scored five runs in the inning, including a grand slam by Jonah Heim.
The Marlins bullpen held on for the win as Pete Fairbanks closed out the ninth. Miami improved to 49-42 and completed a three-game sweep of the Athletics.
