Feijóo accuses Sánchez of manufacturing voters via Memory Law

PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo on Tuesday called to halt nationality grants to descendants of Franco-era exiles. He accused President Pedro Sánchez of manufacturing 2.5 million voters ahead of 2027 elections.

Feijóo made the remarks during an interview in Murcia. He stated that Sánchez had unilaterally altered the electoral census through a ministerial instruction and called for broader study before continuing the process.

Government ministers recalled that in November 2022 Feijóo defended a nationality law for grandchildren of Spaniards abroad during a visit to Buenos Aires. He also announced then his intention to repeal the Democratic Memory Law.

The PP’s 2023 electoral program included a proposal to reform access to nationality for grandchildren and strengthen consulates. Feijóo denied that his party is alleging electoral fraud, though he asked to halt the procedure in force since 2022.
