According to the Paris prosecutor's office, the flames started on the 4th floor and spread to the 5th and 6th floors. Paris firefighters from the Brigade de Sapeurs-Pompiers de Paris (BSPP) responded swiftly and controlled the blaze by 6:10 PM.
A man born in 1973, located on the 6th floor, died in the incident. Three others were treated in absolute emergency, with several more victims receiving care in relative emergency. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this point.
An investigation into the causes of death has been launched and assigned to the 9th arrondissement police station. Authorities have requested interviews with injured victims and witnesses, along with an expert analysis to identify the fire's origin. The building, which faces an interior courtyard, remained under firefighter surveillance into the evening.
Witnesses recounted the event. A nearby bar manager observed smoke rising: "We saw smoke coming out," he said, adding that the street was closed but no evacuation was required. Dimitri, 26, who was in the area, described it as "not particularly spectacular," with no notable panic among passersby. By 10:30 PM, a burnt smell lingered in the neighborhood.
