On May 1, 2026—six months after the murder of her predecessor and ex-husband, former Uruapan mayor Carlos Manzo—current mayor Grecia Quiroz shared a public message mourning the lack of justice and pledging to pursue accountability. Amid ongoing investigations, multiple arrests have been made, including alleged masterminds and accomplices.
Carlos Manzo was assassinated on November 1, 2025, in Uruapan's Historic Center during the Festival de las Velas. Quiroz, backed by Manzo's Movimiento del Sombrero, assumed the mayoralty to complete the 2024-2027 term.
From her official account, Quiroz wrote: “Today unfortunately no JUSTICE has been done for your death, but I want you to know that until my last day I will keep fighting so that those who must pay do so.”
Investigation progress includes: In late November 2025, Jorge Armando 'El Licenciado'—alleged mastermind—and seven of Manzo's escorts were charged with aggravated homicide and omission. In January 2026, Yesenia 'N' (former secretary to Quiroz and Manzo) and Samuel 'N' (CJNG-linked official) were detained.
By March 2026, Michoacán prosecutors reported 23 arrests total, with a line of inquiry into Manzo's security ties to the Army. Prosecutor Carlos Torres Piña mentioned potential summons for Nacho Campos, Leonel Godoy, and Raúl Morón following a complaint by Quiroz.
