A 42-year-old Citybus driver in Hong Kong died after collapsing while driving an empty bus on Saturday night, causing it to mount a pavement. Police said he was rushed unconscious to North Lantau Hospital and declared dead shortly after midnight on Sunday. No other injuries were reported.
Police said the 42-year-old man collapsed at 10.55pm on Saturday while driving an empty Citybus along Chung Yan Road towards Tung Chung Road, after which the vehicle mounted the pavement. No passengers were on board, as the driver was shuttling the bus between depots.
He was rushed unconscious to North Lantau Hospital with no visible external injuries and was pronounced dead shortly after midnight on Sunday.
Citybus confirmed the driver was its employee and stated no one else was injured. The company noted he was moving the bus between depots at the time.
A special investigation team from New Territories South traffic headquarters is handling the case.
