Swedish defenseman Isac Jonsson is expected to leave Swedish hockey and sign with Danish club Herlev Eagles. The 25-year-old has faced challenges in recent seasons with IK Oskarshamn and Mora IK. The move would reunite him with Swedish coach Johan Åkerman.
Isac Jonsson, a 25-year-old defenseman from Ängelholm, is on the verge of a transfer to Herlev Eagles in Denmark. After returning from North America, where he played in the USHL and NCAA, Jonsson struggled for ice time with IK Oskarshamn last season. He broke his contract with the club in January and joined Mora IK for the remainder of the campaign.
Danish media outlet Hockeymagasinet.dk reports that Jonsson is close to agreeing terms with Herlev Eagles ahead of the upcoming season. The club recently appointed Johan Åkerman as head coach, who previously led Lillehammer in Norway.
No official confirmation has been issued yet. However, indications such as family members following the Danish club on social media suggest the deal is near completion.
