Rapper Jack Harlow disclosed that his aunt believed a Saturday Night Live impression of him was authentic. On April 13, Harlow shared on Instagram Stories a text from his aunt praising him for appearing on SNL's Weekend Update to address recent controversies. Comedian Ben Marshall performed the convincing skit, fooling even Harlow's family member.
Jack Harlow posted on his Instagram Stories on Monday, April 13, revealing a text message from his aunt. She wrote that she was “proud of me for going on SNL and addressing everything.” The message referred to backlash surrounding Harlow's recent album, Monica, released last month. Harlow had told The New York Times that he consciously “got Blacker” with his sound, stating, “I love Black music... And, of course, I’m hyper-aware of the politics of today.that safer landing spot that a lot of my white contemporaries have found.” SNL's Weekend Update segment featured Ben Marshall impersonating Harlow. Marshall wore the exact outfit Harlow sported at December’s Marty Supreme film premiere. He invoked social media nicknames born from the controversy, such as “LL Cool Whip,” “D’Anglo,” “Jay-ZZ Top” and “Lil Wayne’s World.” Harlow reacted with disbelief, captioning a photo of himself in a black bonnet: “My aunt that I am related to actually thought that was me.” The skit aired over the weekend, highlighting the impression's uncanny accuracy. Harlow has announced dates for his Monica Tour, starting August 4 at the Brooklyn Paramount in New York and concluding September 21 at the Fox Theater in Oakland, California.
