Jacob & Co. launches Godfather II double-melody musical watch

Jacob & Co. has introduced The Godfather II, the world's only double-melody musical watch. The limited-edition timepiece plays two iconic tunes from the film using a single music-box barrel. Priced at $440,000, just 74 pieces will be produced.

Jacob & Co. unveiled The Godfather II, a rose gold watch measuring 42 by 44 millimeters with a 510-part manual-winding movement, caliber JCAM62. The timepiece features a flying tourbillon and dual power reserve indicators, one for the main movement and another for the music box. A selector at 10 o'clock lets owners choose between “The Godfather’s Waltz” and “The Godfather Love Theme,” both by Nino Rota; a pusher at 8 o'clock activates the 15-to-20-second melodies, repeatable up to 10 times per wind. The single barrel shifts slightly to play either tune via its pins engaging an 18-tooth steel comb. The black lacquered dial displays a portrait of Marlon Brando as Don Corleone and three-dimensional puppet strings, evoking the film's noir style. The curved Art Deco-inspired case includes a rose motif engraving, bullet holes on the case back, and a crown with spiral grooves resembling a gun barrel. A sapphire window on the case back reveals the turning cylinder and combs of the music box, partly covered by an engraving of the Love Theme score. Production is limited to 74 pieces, referencing the 1974 debut of The Godfather Part II, Jacob Arabo's favorite film. The watch follows the brand's earlier Opera Godfather model but introduces a sleeker rectangular case and dual melodies.
