Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has pledged firm action against thuggery in the capital, especially following a recent incident involving a bajaj driver in Tanah Abang. He made the statement in Bambu Apus, East Jakarta, on April 12, 2026. Anung has directed Satpol PP and related agencies to respond decisively.
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated there will be no compromise on thuggery in the city. "There is no compromise anymore. For thuggery in Jakarta, as governor, I have no hesitation in taking firm action," he said in Bambu Apus on Sunday, April 12, 2026.
Anung said he had viewed the video of the incident and instructed Satpol PP and relevant department heads to act decisively. "I have seen the video and I have asked Satpol PP and the department heads to take firm action against it," he added.
The incident occurred on Friday, April 10, 2026, when social media footage showed a bajaj driver in Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, being demanded "uang setoran" by a man. A similar case involved a bakso vendor in Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, asked for Rp 100,000; upon refusal, his bowl was smashed.
Polda Metro Jaya affirmed it will not tolerate thugs, including those extorting traders, and will enforce crackdowns. Anung stressed the community's role in reporting disturbances to ensure Jakarta's safety.
