New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani confirmed a breach of security at Jay-Z’s Sunday night concert at Yankee Stadium. Hundreds of unticketed individuals stormed the entrances, forcing gates to close and delaying the start by more than three hours.
The incident occurred on July 12 during the final night of Jay-Z’s three-show residency. Footage showed large groups rushing past ticketholders, prompting a lockdown with assistance from the NYPD.
A joint statement from the New York Yankees, Roc Nation and Live Nation described how “hundreds of individuals in large groups — who did not have tickets — stormed over peaceful ticketholders, and in some cases, breached security.” Gates remained closed for an extended period before reopening under police guidance.
Jay-Z took the stage around 12:30 a.m. ET on July 13 and apologized to fans. He noted roughly 10,000 people were outside and said he delayed the show to avoid trampling. The performance eventually ran until nearly 3 a.m. and featured guests including Beyoncé and Rihanna.
