Kapolri General Listyo Sigit Prabowo monitored the New Year's Eve 2026 security virtually from Polda Metro Jaya to ensure optimal services for the public. Most regions complied with the appeal to avoid fireworks as solidarity with Sumatra disaster victims. The security situation was reported safe with no prominent incidents.

Jakarta -- Kapolri General Police Listyo Sigit Prabowo conducted a virtual monitoring of New Year's Eve 2026 activities across Indonesia from Polda Metro Jaya headquarters on Wednesday night, December 31, 2025. The monitoring aimed to ensure optimal security and services in line with President Prabowo Subianto's instructions.

"In line with the President's directives, he wants to ensure that the series of security and service activities for the new year transition are carried out well," Sigit said, quoted from an official statement on January 1, 2026.

Polri secured various activities such as religious services, tourist visits, and public gatherings. Monitoring results showed that most of the public complied with local government appeals to avoid fireworks celebrations, as empathy for natural disaster victims in Sumatra. Many regions replaced celebrations with joint prayers and social activities like fundraising.

"Overall, most of the public complied with not carrying out activities, especially local governments regarding the use of fireworks during the new year transition, and many celebrated with joint prayers. This is certainly part of our empathy for our brothers and sisters in Sumatra," Sigit stated.

Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Djamari Chaniago, after a teleconference with Kapolri and TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto, stated there were no prominent incidents disrupting security. BMKG's extreme weather predictions have not escalated, such as heavy rain in Central Java that only turned into drizzle. Public mobility in tourist areas like Bali and Yogyakarta was smooth despite increases.

Sigit also reported a decrease in traffic accidents and criminality compared to 2024. He instructed personnel to continue monitoring weather and collaborate with TNI, Basarnas, and BNPB if evacuation is needed.

"There were no prominent issues during our connections with the regions," Djamari said.

The decision not to permit fireworks was made due to the national mourning situation from floods in Sumatra, making the 2026 New Year's celebration more meaningful with a focus on solidarity.
