Ken Griffey Jr. advised high school players at the Hank Aaron Invitational on visualization and self-belief during a session at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex in Vero Beach, Florida.
The 13-time All-Star shared his routines from childhood, including practicing diving catches on his bed and visualizing perfect plays. He told attendees that believing in oneself remains the biggest factor for success.
Griffey emphasized preparation through daily hitting sessions that begin with bunts and progress to line drives. He advised against confusing bad luck with slumps, noting that seven fielders stand ready to make plays behind the pitcher.
Players Aiden Salinas and Tavis Honeycutt said the more than 40-minute talk offered valuable insights into mindset and fielding. Griffey noted that events like the invitational allow young athletes to learn directly from those who reached the majors.
He added that being called coach by participants represents one of his greatest rewards.
