Kenyans can now download and print birth certificates online

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen announced on June 22 that Kenyans can download and print birth certificates online following a meeting at Nyayo House in Nairobi.

The announcement came after a high-level meeting between the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services and senior officials. Murkomen stated that the change allows Kenyans to obtain the documents from home with internet access after applying through the eCitizen portal.

Previously applicants could submit forms online but still needed to collect physical certificates at civil registry offices or Huduma centres. The new system forms part of efforts to reduce time, cost and bureaucracy in civil registration.

Murkomen also noted plans to expand the eCitizen platform as a unified digital gateway and to open more passport centres, including in Kilifi County. These steps align with the public service modernisation agenda to digitise government processes.
