Liam Lawson has described how online abuse from Formula 1 fans prompted him to mute all related social media accounts.
The New Zealander detailed the experience during an appearance on the High Performance podcast. He said the abuse intensified after an on-track clash with Sergio Perez at the 2024 Mexico City Grand Prix.
Lawson replaced Daniel Ricciardo at Racing Bulls after the 2024 Singapore Grand Prix and later joined Red Bull for 2025 before being replaced by Yuki Tsunoda after two races. He explained that the volume of negative messages and comments led him to remove the apps entirely.
"Every single Formula 1 account is muted," Lawson said. "It's just completely muted. So, I don't see anything to do with it online." He added that the step helped protect his mental health amid the rumours and false claims.
Lawson noted that he now ignores much of the commentary surrounding his career.
