Liz Meriwether has been selected to write the screenplay for a biopic based on Britney Spears' memoir The Woman in Me. The project is being produced by Marc Platt and directed by Jon M. Chu for Universal Pictures.
Meriwether, known for creating the series New Girl, will handle the first draft. The film will chronicle the singer's career trajectory from her origins in McComb, Mississippi, through her major hits including “...Baby One More Time,” “Toxic” and “Oops!... I Did It Again.”
Universal acquired the rights to the memoir in August 2024 with Platt and Chu already attached. The book itself sold more than six million copies worldwide after a fifteen million dollar deal was signed in 2022.
Spears has earned a Grammy Award and sold close to one hundred fifty million records globally. Universal offered no comment on the latest development.
