Madonna and her daughter Lola Leon shared details of their work on the track “The Test” during a July 2 interview. The song appears on Madonna’s new album Confessions II, which was released July 3.
During the iHeartRadio and TikTok Live Premiere With Madonna, Leon said the collaboration was her idea. She explained that art offered a way to address unspoken emotions between mother and daughter.
Madonna called the songwriting session a very magical moment that required both to be vulnerable. The track reflects on how her fame affected Leon, who was nine when the Confessions on a Dance Floor era began.
Leon also described a dream about her maternal grandmother before recording. She said the experience helped honor her grandmother and heal aspects of their family story.
Confessions II is Madonna’s 15th studio album and features 16 tracks with contributions from Sabrina Carpenter, Feid, Martin Garrix and Stromae.
