Federal authorities said Arnoldo Jimenez, charged with murdering his wife on their 2012 wedding night, has been returned to the United States after years on the run.
Jimenez, 44, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of Estrella Carrera, 26. Her body was found in the bathtub of her Burbank, Illinois, apartment two days after the couple married in a civil ceremony at Chicago City Hall on May 11, 2012.
Police said evidence including blood matching Carrera's DNA, broken jewelry and shattered glass indicated she was attacked inside a Maserati registered to Jimenez before being moved to the apartment. Carrera was still wearing the dress from her wedding reception.
Mexico's Fiscalía General de la República, working with Interpol, arrested Jimenez on Jan. 30, 2025. He arrived at Chicago O'Hare International Airport on June 18 and was scheduled to appear in court the following Monday.
