Former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova has received a four-year suspension from an independent tribunal for refusing an anti-doping test. The Czech player cited mental health concerns and protocol issues in her defense.
The International Tennis Integrity Agency imposed the ban after Vondrousova declined a sample collection in December 2025. She stated the agent arrived outside her scheduled testing window and failed to show proper identification.
Vondrousova explained her reaction by referencing a diagnosed Acute Stress Reaction and Generalized Anxiety Disorder. She also referenced the 2016 home attack on fellow player Petra Kvitova.
ITIA chief executive Karen Moorhouse defended the ruling. She said unpredictable testing remains essential to protect clean sport and that all collection agents hold proper credentials.
Vondrousova won the 2023 Wimbledon title and reached finals at the 2019 French Open and 2021 Tokyo Olympics. It is not yet known whether she will appeal the decision.
