The two PSOE candidates for Madrid mayor, Reyes Maroto and Emma López, held a cordial debate on Thursday in which they defended similar city models but with differences in approach for the party.
The face-to-face, organized at the PSOE headquarters in Madrid and streamed online, proceeded without attacks or reproaches between the candidates. Both agreed on proposals regarding mobility, housing and public services, although López emphasized the need for "fresh air" and Maroto defended continuity of the current project.
Maroto, backed by Ferraz, recalled that in three years the socialist group went from eight to 11 councilors and appealed to "start winning". López, for her part, focused her message on mobilizing disenchanted militants and proposed "redensifying" housing from the sixties and seventies.
The primaries will be held this Sunday. Maroto obtained 1,376 endorsements and López 1,028. The winner will face José Luis Martínez-Almeida in 2027.
