Enma López resigns from PSOE federal executive to enter Madrid primaries

Councilor Enma López has announced she will run in the PSOE primaries to be the candidate for Madrid mayor and has resigned from her position on the federal executive.

The announcement came on Friday, June 26, without prior consultation with the party's national leadership at Ferraz. López, who served as secretary of Studies and Programs and deputy spokesperson, justified her decision by the need for full dedication to the project.

The councilor has received limited support within the socialist municipal group. Only Antonio Giraldo and the general secretary of Arganzuela, Alex Lecumberri, have publicly backed her candidacy against Reyes Maroto.

Party sources have described the move as disloyal. López has stated she will focus her efforts on winning Madrid and has expressed loyalty to secretary general Pedro Sánchez in her statement.
