The judge in Catarroja has added to the case the WhatsApp messages exchanged between former Valencian regional president Carlos Mazón and Valencia mayor María José Catalá on the night of the October 29 2024 DANA flood.
According to the messages delivered by Catalá to the court, Mazón wrote at 11:20 pm: “There are going to be many dead”. An hour earlier the mayor had offered help from the Valencia local police headquarters.
Mazón replied at 11:27 pm: “Dozens for sure already”. The former president was then at the Cecopi in L’Eliana and left the centre an hour and a half after the mass ES-Alert was sent.
Catalá testified as a witness before magistrate Nuria Ruiz Tobarra this week and authorised the inclusion of the messages in the investigation of the flood that caused 230 deaths.
